Hello All,

Well, the Saturday meeting of the Greater Seattle Chapter was a bit
different than most.

First, I want to say THANK YOU to all who stuck it out and stayed around
for the meeting. You see, the YMCA in Downtown Seattle was unexpectedly
closed due to maintenence. Even though I had confirmed meeting dates a
couple of months ago, we were not informed until Saturday morning at 9am
that the YMCA was closed. Vicki Noratak called me as soon as she arrived
at the Y and found out that it was closed. After many phone calls to
members en route to the meeting and a few surrounding areas, we were
able to use a room at the Seattle Public Library at the last minute. A
big THANK YOU to Cleo Brooks as she was able to help out and her
co-worker who allowed us to use the computer room located on the first
floor in the language arts area.

Our speaker, Betty from the Disabilities Rights of Washington
organization was a good sport and stuck it out until our meeting place
was confirmed and we got settled in. The meeting started only 20 minutes
late.

At our meeting, Andrea Travis volunteered to head up our communications
project. Mike Mello and Kay Burrows reported on the membership drive we
are hosting in October. Our target group are the Community College and
University students. We will be holding this in October to coincide with
the Meet the Blind month activities. Stay tuned for more details on this
event.

The membership of the Seattle Chapter also decided to participate in the
Macy's Shop For A Cause event. We will be selling the tickets / coupons
talked about on the Presidential Release. We will also be donating 50%
of proceeds raised to the state affiliate. As the Macy's Shop For A
Cause event is a nation wide event, the membership of the Seattle
Chapter is putting out a challenge to other Washington state chapters to
do the same.

Finally, the membership voted in our 4th new member this year.

So, if you showed up at the YMCA and wondered what happened, here it is.
We are planning to be back at the YMCA next month. However, be assured
that I will be confirming the date the week before the meeting!

Have a great day!

Kris Lawrence
President, NFBW Greater Seattle Chapter
