THE CANADIAN FEDERATION OF THE BLIND ANNOUNCES DR. MARC MAURER’S VISIT TO
CANADA
Members of the Canadian Federation of the Blind are excited and honoured to
welcome Dr. Marc Maurer as our special guest and banquet keynote speaker at
our convention on May 4-5, 2007. Dr. Maurer is a renowned lawyer and
President of the National Federation of the Blind in the United States, the
largest and most influential movement of the organized blind in the world.
The Canadian Federation of the Blind “Moving Forward” convention will be
held in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada at the Traveller’s Inn, City
Centre, 1961 Douglas Street (corner of Douglas and Discovery) on Friday, May
4 and Saturday, May 5, 2007.
At the convention, speakers will discuss topics such as independence,
Braille, blind parents, traveling with the long white cane, rehabilitation
and the development of the organized blind movement in Canada. In
particular, presenters will focus on the disturbingly high unemployment rate
of blind Canadians, over 80 per cent, and discuss how to improve this
situation. Blind people will talk about their jobs and careers in an
afternoon employment panel.
Convention activities will include:
- Welcome reception for Dr. Marc Maurer on Friday evening, May 4 from 6:30
PM to 9 PM
(Registration starts at 6 PM).
- Full-day conference on Saturday, May 5 from 9 AM – 4:30 PM. First door
prize given out at the opening of the conference.
(Registration starts at 8 AM).
- White Cane walk on Saturday afternoon, May 5 at 4:45 PM.
- Banquet and keynote address by Dr. Maurer Saturday evening, May 5, 6:30 PM
– 9:30 PM.

The following room rates are available to convention attendees if you
reserve. The rooms are not pre-booked, so it is advisable to reserve by

Room rates are subject to 17.75% taxes and surcharges.

Note: the $50 registration fee pays for all activities including Saturday’s
lunch and banquet. Dr. Maurer will be giving his keynote address at the
banquet.

the completed form with your registration fee to the Canadian Federation of
the Blind. You can also email your form and mail payment separately. If
possible, please register by April 10, 2007.
