Community Transit Offers Free Bus Rides on Earth Day, April 22

Snohomish County, Wash. - Community Transit will celebrate Earth Day by providing free bus service to customers on Sunday, April 22.

The free ride promotion, in conjunction with Everett Transit, King County Metro Transit and Sound Transit, is meant to introduce people to the value of public transportation as well as reward customers who already use the service.

Using public transportation on Earth Day - and any other day - is good for the planet. All Community Transit buses use ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel and are equipped with particulate traps, reducing pollution by 90 percent over conventional diesel buses. Every year Community Transit prevents 90 tons of pollution from entering our air by transporting riders who otherwise would be driving their personal vehicles.

With AAA-Washington this week reporting that gas prices are now averaging above $3 per gallon in Washington state, its a good time to take a test ride on public transit and do something good for the environment.

On April 22, all Community Transit bus rides will be free to anywhere the agencys buses travel, including the Alderwood mall and libraries in Lynnwood, Marysville and Snohomish.

That day, Community Transits superhero - Oxy Gene, defender of truth, justice and really clean air - will celebrate Earth Day at 1 p.m. at the Lynnwood Library as part of the librarys Earth Day Fair. Free crafts, plants and displays will be offered. People can travel to the Lynnwood Library on Community Transit Routes 114 and 118. The Marysville library (Route 222) and Snohomish library (Route 271) also will host Earth Day celebrations.

Oxy Gene will make a pre-Earth Day appearance at Edmonds Community College from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on April 19 as part of that institutions Earth Day Celebration. Six bus routes serve the campus and Community Transit and Edmonds Community College partner to offer the EdPass to students, faculty and staff.

To plan your Earth Day trip or any other bus trip, use Community Transits online trip planner at www.communitytransit.org or pick up a copy of the Bus Plus schedule book.

Community Transit operates 33 local bus routes, 31 commuter routes and DART paratransit service throughout Snohomish County. It also offers carpool matching, one of the nations largest vanpool programs, and travel training to disabled and senior citizens. Call Community Transit at (425) 353-RIDE or (800) 562-1375 for bus information, or (888) 814-1300 for carpool or vanpool information, or go to www.communitytransit.org.
