And, along with short walk cycles comes another short cycle.  Patience. 
Cathy and I spend a great amount of time each week driving between clients. 
Over the last 12 years we have seen a dangerous rise in the level of 
intolerance and impatience.  Road rage erupts in a split second.  A motorist 
slows to allow someone to change lanes and the driver behind him goes 
ballistic, whipping around the car in front, and jamming his foot to the 
floor.  Cars out here on the Olympic Peninsula have taken to passing on the 
right.  Even when there is no lane available.
I could rave on for hours, but you get the picture.  Our biggest threat, as 
blind pedestrians, are the nuts behind the wheel.
