What a bummer. Not the first time AMTRAK has shown ignorance although I've
had pretty decent luck lately.
Guess you should have made the reservation on the web! <g>

Subject: [nfbwatlk] Ignorance Abounds
Hello All,
Well everyone, I am amazed, shocked and horrified at the ignorance of
some people. I know I shouldn't be, but this one took the cake. Left me
frothing at the mouth.
I called Amtrak to make the reservations for our trip to convention. I
actually had a woman who "had to check" if I COULD TRAVEL ALONE WITH MY
OWN CHILDREN WHILE THEY WERE UNDER 12 YEARS OLD!!!! I was taken aback
and couldn't believe that she was saying that she had to "check" whether
or not there was a regulation regarding children under 12 traveling with
a blind adult! I did make the reservation in the end. She did not
apologize other than to say that she was trying to give me good customer
service so that I was not turned away when I came to pick up my tickets.
I just can't believe that this type of ignorance still abounds! And yes,
I will be writing a letter to Amtrak Customer SErvice offering an
educational session for their reservation agents... and no, I don't
expect to be taken up on the offer.
Kris
