[nfbwatlk] Sam Reed's Letter to Seattle's Mayor Nickels

Greetings, fellow listers!

Some ten days ago, Sam Reed, Secretary of State, sent a letter to Mayor 
Nickels of Seattle, asking that an agreement be reached with the city of 
Seattle to transfer ownership of the building now housing the Washington 
Talking Book and Braille Library to the Secretary of State as part of the 
transition project to transfer WTBBL operation to the State Library. The 
National Federation of the Blind of Washington favors such a transfer as we 
believe it to have been the intent of the legislature when remodeling of the 
building was funded in 1993 that the building was to house or benefit WTBBL. 
It is our understanding that Seattle contends that it should retain 
ownership of the building. To date, no response has been received from the 
Mayor's Office. If a response is not forthcoming in the near future, we 
shall have to make our views known to the Mayor.
