[nfbwatlk] Does anyone know where I can find these?

Oh, how funny! If I could do it and get away with it that would be great!
C.P.S. wants accurate weights of the baby without a diaper or clothes
though, so I'm at a loss. She's an underweight child, or at least she was
before I got her back on the upward curve. Do you know about talking baby
scales?
Sincerely
Mary

To weigh a baby, why not just weigh yourself, then pick up the baby and
get back on the scale. Works until you can't carry the baby any more.
Maybe not quite as accurate as weighing the baby alone, but works for
me. I used to weigh my dog that way too, for those folks wondering how
to weigh their guide dogs. (grin.)

Mary,
The American Action Fund and the Library for the Blind are good sources
of books on loan. National Braille Press sells print/Braille books at
the same cost as the print edition. Seedlings is also a good source of
inexpensive Braille books, though many of them do not have the print.
You can also check with www.braillebookstorg.org for other titles.
I never owned a talking scale. I knew my babies were growing normally
based on the number of wet and dirty diapers. If your baby is wet six
times a day and has one or two bowel movements a day, it's a pretty good
bet that he or she is gaining weight appropriately. If you need to
check, you can always go to your doctor or the public health nurse to
check. I've never heard of a baby with the proper number of wet and
dirty diapers who is not gaining appropriately.
I've also been very low tech with thermometers. We spent over two
hundred dollars for one when our oldest child was born and discovered it
didn't work well. Then a very practical nurse taught me how to gauge
temperature by touching my baby's head and neck. It's certainly not
accurate, and you'll need to get somebody with a thermometer if you're
talking to some one on the phone, but I could always tell whether the
fever was slight or severe. I'm not recommending against a thermometer,
just suggesting that your own ability to tell something's wrong will
give you the information you need to start investigating further.
There's no crime in buying a standard thermometer and getting somebody
to read it for you. Doctors will tell you most thermometers in the home
are notoriously inaccurate, just used as a general guideline.

That reminds me of the American Action Fund for Blind Children and
Adults, which sends a book each month to folks on its list. Call
