Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) is a chronic
disease prevention program currently focusing on diabetes among African
American,
Asian American, Latino/Hispanic and Pacific Islander communities,
including communication with the American Indian/Alaska Native
communities. This position
will manage continued implementation of a community coalition-led
research demonstration project offering outreach, education,
self-management training,
social support and case coordination.
Examples of Duties:
1. Program implementation and management including budget development,
expenditure monitoring, grants and contracts negotiation, oversight
compliance; communicates
with funding agency for accounts receivable, program operations and
project outcomes.
2. Responsible for arranging and staffing Coalition, Community Liaison,
retreats and other needed meetings, coordinating the work of Community
Liaisons,
disseminating information to community coalition members via newsletter
and other means.
3. Meet with community coalition members to assure communication,
problem solving and achievement of objectives according to the community
action plan,
the REACH logic model, and other planning efforts.
4. Facilitate, train and/or supervise the work of staff, work as liaison
with community coalition members, provide support to assessment and
evaluation
teams, coordinate special projects and provide conference, activities
and event planning, assist in data interpretation and dissemination.
5. Assist in planning and problem solving and sustainability through
policy, media and other efforts.
6. Assist in media communication and promotion of the project and work
with other staff and community members to promote program sustainability
and viability.
7. Prepare progress and financial status reports, grant applications,
publications and community and professional presentations as
appropriate.
Typical Qualifications:
Through knowledge of principles and practices of community based public
health, social marketing and population based approaches to healthcare;
public health
strategies related to chronic disease prevention and health promotion;
methods of community based participatory research (CBPR), research and
program direction
among multiple cultural groups, interface with large funding sources
(e.g., Centers for Disease Control and Prevention); complex project
management and
supervisory practices.
Working knowledge of practices and procedures of project cost
accounting, contract management and health policy analysis.
Demonstrated ability to direct community research projects and community
programs with one or more of the focal REACH populations; organize
community action
through existing community structure (e.g., community-based or
faith-based organizations, community clinics); analyze budgets and
expenditures; apply quantitative
and qualitative analytical methods; create and utilize project
management tracking tools to communicate project activity and outcomes;
manage conflict
through facilitation and negotiation.
Public Health relies on office automation (Microsoft Office) and
web-enabled tools; therefore, candidates must be proficient in computer
use to perform
functions associated with on-going work as well as to research
information and take training.
Desired qualifications include education and career focus on
community-based public health practice and extensive experience in
cultural environments prioritized
by REACH.
