And my Dad took us to a game in Portland with Satch Page as well. That
game, and *many* other games in the PCL were broadcast by legendary
Sonics announcer, Bob Blackburn, who pretty much iriginated his career
in Portlandd. I grew up with him. He'll be on the Evergreen Radio
Reading Service Talk show next Wednesday, May 10 at 6:00 P.M. Mary
Mohrman and I will cohost the interview, and telephone call in show.
Just thought some of you might be interested in calling

Yeah, but shouldn't Salt Lake be the Gulls?
Some of the names from the old PCL Triple A teams were fun, too.
There were the Oakland Acorns. San Francisco Seals. Vancouver
Mounties.
Sacramento Solons. San Diego Padres. Portland Beavers. Seattle
Rainier's.
And of course, the Los Angeles Angels, who actually played in Los
Angeles.
>From time to time teams changed around. Sometimes we had the Spokane
Indians and the Tacoma Tigers.
I may be the last living fan to recall the great Steve Bilko. He played
for
the Angels, and every year or so he'd go up to the majors. But he never
made it for long. Still, he was the home run champ of the PCL. Seattle
had
interesting names, too. Kewpie Dick Barrett, a chubby faced pitcher.
Shooster the Rooster, played third base. JoJo White was one of our long
time managers. Fred Hutcheson also managed, as did Rogers Hornsby. The
list goes on, but one of my greatest moments was the time I saw Satch
Page
pitch for Seattle. He went on up to Kansas City for his last go round
in
the Majors, but spent about half the season with Seattle. And all of it
came to you through the eyes and mouth of Leo Lasson.
