It's easier to preserve things like copyright and trademark symbols in 
attachments. Also, as you say, formatting is preserved. If one were to 
get *really* sticky about it, by pasting something into a message 
without permission, one might well be accused of altering copyrighted 
material.

Besides (and here's the real rub, I think -- grin), cutting and pasting 
(especialy if some editing is needed) is more work!
