involvement in this research, but we believe that it may contribute to our
research mission.

 


Research Title: Experiences with conversational LLMs (e.g. ChatGPT) for
Blind or Low Vision Users


 

Being conducted by: DePaul University


 


Purpose of the Study


We are asking you to be in a research study because you are blind or low
vision and you have encountered or you are aware of conversational large
language models. A large language model is a machine learning model that
incorporates large amounts of data to create human-like text. We are
interested to learn more about how people who are blind or low vision
interact with conversational large language models. This study is being
conducted by Filipo Sharevski, PhD. We intent to recruit 250 participants
for this research.


 


Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study 


If you agree to be in this study, you will interact with content that has
been generated by a large language model. 

 

We will also collect some personal information about you such as age,
gender, ethnicity/race, education, and visual disability diagnosis. If there
is a question you do not want to answer, you may ask us to skip it. You will
be also asked if you would like to participate in a follow-up interview
regarding experiences, detection, and impacts of deepfakes. Your information
will be kept confidential and stored in a secured computer under password
protection and with encrypted files. The data will be kept de-identified.


 


Proposed Participant Compensation


Your total time commitment will be around 15 minutes if you participate in
the research survey and 45 minutes if you choose the option to do the
follow-up interview. The survey participation is voluntary, but the
interview  will be compensated with a $20 Amazon Gift Card for 45 minutes
participation.
