Research Participant Solicitation Announcement

Research project title:
Associations between blindness, sleep, stress, depression, and fatigue

Name of Institution:
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

The purpose of this research project is to understand the impacts of blindness on sleep quality, stress, depression, and fatigue. There are no known risks associated with participating in this research project. This research is not designed to help you personally, but the findings of this research can help healthcare researchers understand the primary health concerns and health problems of blind people.

The ultimate goal of this research is to improve the health-related quality of life of blind people. According to the previous study, most individuals with blindness have at least two chronic conditions and they face with multiple challenges in self-care in their daily lives. To reduce health disparities in our society, more personalized healthcare services for blind individuals are needed.

For the research, Dr. Choi's research team is looking for blind participants. The following study inclusion criteria will be used for recruiting participants: 1) a legally blind person; 2) at least 18 years of age; 3) able to communicate in English; 4) individuals located in the United States.

The participants will complete the online survey (79 questions). And it will take about 20 - 30 minutes. If you complete the online survey, we will provide Amazon gift cards for compensation by raffling: 50$ Amazon gift cards for 6 participants and 20$ Amazon gift cards for 10 participants. The online survey will start on August 24th, 2022. When 100 participants complete the online survey, the link will be deactivated, the raffling will be performed, and Amazon gift cards will be sent via email.

This study has been approved by an IRB at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
