Mark A. Riccobono, President of the National
Federation of the Blind, said: We are excited
and proud to host the first World Blind Union
General Assembly to be held in the United States.
Hosting this important meeting of the worlds
blind is a natural step for us, as our founder,
Dr. Jacobus tenBroek, also helped found the
International Federation of the Blind, and we
have sought to improve the lives of the blind
throughout the world by participating in
international efforts ever since. We look forward
to meeting our fellow advocates from many nations
and to finding opportunities to collaborate on
various projects and initiatives, so that all
members of the global blind community can live the lives they want.

###
About the National Federation of the Blind:
The National Federation of the Blind knows that
blindness is not the characteristic that defines
you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low
expectations create obstacles between blind
people and our dreams. You can live the life you
want; blindness is not what holds you back.
About the World Blind Union:
The World Blind Union (WBU) is the
internationally recognized organization,
representing the 285 million blind and partially
sighted persons in 190 member countries. We are
the Voice of the Blind, speaking to governments
and international bodies on issues concerning
blindness and visual impairments in conjunction
with our members. The World Blind Union was
formed in 1984 through the Union of the
International Federation of the Blind (IFB) and
the World Council for the Welfare of the Blind
(WCWB). WBU brings together all the major
national and international organizations of blind
persons and those organizations providing
services to the visually impaired to work on the
issues affecting the quality of life for blind
people. Globally, we are divided into 6 regions,
with each region having its own President and
volunteer executive team to assist the needs of the local members.
About ICEVI:
International Council for Education of People
with Visual Impairment (ICEVI) is a global
association of individuals and organizations that
promotes equal access to appropriate education
for all children and youth with visual impairment
so that they may achieve their full potential.
