The MIABS Mosaic Vol. 5.4
May 31ST, 2026
Message from the treasurer: Danielle Agajan
Good Evening MIABS Membership. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend and enjoying this beautiful Sunday as we finally transition into Michigan summer. Lord knows we are all ready to have some fun in the sun, but as of late I feel like we need to give Michigan Mother Nature a call and tell her Katie Perry already has the market on being "hot and cold" so she needs to make up her mind already. With all that being said, today mother nature has decided to be hot, so grab your favorite summer time beverage, crank up your fan or ac and lets break down the month of May together.
The Monthly Wrap-up
Advocacy
May came in like a wrecking ball with President Crouch and the advocacy committee coming in and breaking down all the walls that try to block our progress as blind individuals. As you know, the advocacy committee has been in the works with a local college to discuss a partnership to ensure that the blind students attending this college are getting all the assistance they need. After some back and forth emailing, the college has agreed to take some informational packets that the student division put together as a tool for them to use as a resource to bridge any gaps that exist. Next on the agenda for the advocacy committee is creating a specialized "toolkit" for students to help them navigate the classroom halls and advocate for themselves. The current deadline for the members of this committee is June 4th, when they will be turning over their rough drafts and the toolkit can get on its way of being created. The goal is to have this finished and ready to hand out for students as they return to the classroom for fall semester.
Membership
Membership has been burning down the house with outreach, guest involvement and membership. In April we started the "Guest Quest" program, which encouraged our current members to reach out to people and discuss the NFB and its philosophy. We encouraged them to invite those they reached out to, to join one of our many meetings as a guest. This not only helped bring in new members, but also to spread the philosophy of the NFB and in some cases even dispel preconceived notions people had about our organization. All in all it has been a great success and we are happy and proud to announce this will be an ongoing quarterly initiative. We would also like to give a warm welcome to our new members Ciara and Kaydence and a shoutout to four additional guests who have met all requirements and are hoping to be voted in at our next business meeting June 6th. Hi Makenna, Mary, Uzma and Jeremiah.
Communications
As we round the corner in the month of May we meet up with our communications portion of the mosaic, covering everything technology, communications and social media related. It has been virtual insanity as our communications committee has been hitting our socials hard and heavy, growing our followings and spreading the word. If you aren't already, please consider subscribing to our tik tok, you tube, facebook and X pages, so you don't miss a single minute of everything we have going on as well as some fun behind the scenes footage, only available on those platforms, Just a teaser, we have everything from thought provoking questions about blindness, to full MAER presentation footage and even a few shout outs from National reps, including our very own President Riccobono. Make sure you stay in touch with our calendar of events, so you don;t miss a single episode of Tech Talk and Unseen Media Live, to fill all your blind tech and entertainment needs.
Fundraising
Rounding out the month we come to all things money making with our fundraising. Things have been Hot, Hot, Hot, as usual within this committee. We just finished our Dipp'd fundraiser, raising a total of $238.00, we also had a quick Double Good popcorn fundraiser that raised a total of $ 329.00, finally we finished up our pledge fundraiser, but with a few pledges still outstanding, I don't have a final total for you just yet, stay tuned for our business meeting where I should be able to tabulate that total for our membership. Currently we have our MIABS accessible flea market up and running, if you are in need of anything from snack bags, counseling sessions, tech training, children's story voice overs and so much more, please check out the link
here,<https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/miabs-accessible-flea-market>
before time runs out. We will also be starting our Liberty coffee fundraiser here shortly, so stay tuned for all your caffeinated needs.
State Affiliate Board Meeting
Bring on the Encore....for all those who missed out, there was an in person Affiliate board meeting on May 23rd, 2026 and your student division executive board was in attendance, in full force. The affiliate discussed all things convention, both Nationally and State wise, the upcoming Bell program in July, the unfortunate closing of the STEM program this year and the possible reorganization of the Detroit Chapter. If you have any questions about anything you may have missed, please feel free to reach out to any of the student division executive board for details.

In Conclusion
Well, I'm pretty sure that's a wrap for this month's Mosaic wrap up. As usual, tons to say in a small amount of space and I don't see us slowing down or stopping anytime soon. So until next time, just remember as students, we built this city, you are not alone and Let's Go Build the Federation!
