It was awesome.  The kids were cute as always.  We first started by having
the kids make a craft project, specifically brain hats.  Then we all sat on
the floor and read, "Oh The Places You Will Go."  The book talks about going
places with your brain in your head and your feet in your shoes, so we did a
walk around VIPS.  The kids had to reed signs that would lead them to
different activities, and they had a choice which way they wanted to go.
Some of the activities included games, dressing up and taking pictures, and
listening to sounds on a tape and identifying the sounds.  We tried to use
adapted games so parents could see what was out there for their kids to
access.  We used the Touch Game, Braille Dice, and adapted books for
example.  Afterward the kids had ice cream, and got to pick out and put on
their own toppings.  Over all we liked how it went and have high hopes for
future such events.  We will probably do the next in September after school
starts so that we can use the schools as a resource for getting out the
word.

This Saturday, May 19, the Kentucky Parents of Blind Children will hold our
first ever Braille Buddies event.  This event will take place at VIPS 1906
Goldsmith lane, from 9:30-11:00a.m.

Join us for a story Hour featuring, "Oh The Places You Will Go!"  If you
have your own copy of the book bring it along.  After the story time the
little ones will follow a path full of activities and exploration, ending up
with a snack.  And, if the sunshine should cooperate, join us afterward for
some time on the beautiful new VIPS playground.
