[Nfbkpbc] need ideas for grant! HELP!

My cousin is autistic and when he was about six his teachers suggested that
a trampoline would be a good thing. It is supposed to be calming, much like
a swing would be. We have a big one with a net around it and the kids would
live on it if aloud. You should contact VIPS. They just put up that new
playground last year and I know that it was put up with specific goals and
ideas in mind. I would think that a lot of research went into what they put
out there.

Subject: [Nfbkpbc] need ideas for grant! HELP!

I have an opportunity to request grant moneys for supported living for my
daughter, Annmarie, age 9, who is blind and autistic. My idea is to write
a
one-time request to fund a therapeutic playground in our backyard. This is
due
April 1, so I don't have much time to come up with a plan, do my homework
and write it up.

Would need to be fenced in, as it is currently only partially fenced.

The concept is that right now she is unable to play independently back
there, because of the lack of fencing (she cannot determine the boundaries
of her
play area and would wander away). Also, somewhere I read one of the best
ways to get typical peers to want to play at your child's home is to have
neat
stuff for them to play on/with (does anyone know a citation for
this.....like
where a professional has said it, that I can quote?). We don't have that.
We have a backyard with a concrete patio, some grass and lots of weeds, a
statue of Mary, a lilac bush and some lavendar plants. I have a plastic
slide, a
sand box and in the summer I put out a wading pool. It isn't much.

In addition, I know that things like swinging, sliding, etc. are good
sensory therapy for her. Maybe a kind of bike that she could enjoy, like
any other
9 year old.

Help me with some ideas for equipment, etc. I can put into the grant. I
was
thinking also, maybe, a sensory garden for her.

Has anyone done anything like this before? I would like to hear from you.

I appreciate any guidance or advice from anyone who has ideas or experience
with this!
Thank you,
Kathryn
