Well, I'm Melanie (32), married to Mike (36), we
have one daughter, Megan (7 in March) and a baby
due in August.  We live in Louisville.

Megan and I both were born with congenital
cataracts and we both had them removed in infancy.
Megan has lens implants in both eyes and so far
shows no signs of Glaucoma.  We believe that the
new baby has about a 50/50 chance of being born
with cataracts as well.

Megan is a very bright and precocious almost
7-year- old.  She loves soccer, the Justice
League, talking football with her dad and anything
rough and tumble!  She attends a Montessori school
where she is thriving socially and educationally.
Megan sees a VI teacher 3 times each week and they
work on such things as using a monocular to see
things in the distance and using a magnifier for
print that she cannot see (i.e. encyclopedia).

Megan currently wears a patch over her left eye
each day for at least 2 hours in an effort to
improve the vision in her right eye.  The main
issue there is the large discrepancy between the
vision in her eyes causing her to only use her
left eye.

I'm a stay at home mom and I am currently
finishing my bachelor's degree.  I love to read,
shop, play bunco and crochet/knit.  When I have
time I enjoy scrap booking as well.  Mike manages
a locally owned book/music/video/game store and he
enjoys football and computer gaming.  I guess
that's us in not such a nutshell!  I'm really
anxious for this group to motivated and do great
things!
