Hello all,
Please forgive the delayed response.
Before anything else, I think congratulations are really in order for the
NABS board for a smoothly executed winter meeting last weekend. A new board
signals a new beginning, and the atmosphere of the seminar was uniquely
appropriate for a board on the verge of ground-breaking plans for our fellow
students in the organization. Complements to our leaders for giving a new
spin to a student's night out.
I am grateful for the appointment to serve as communications director for
NABS. When I received the board's working plans I warned them about the
ambitious level of their desires, but to be honest, it is their level of
ambition that makes this appointment worthwhile. They truly care about the
membership, and perhaps the most positive aspect of working for Tai is the
excitement she inspires and her willingness to use creative means to achieve
optimal results.
My appointment translates into two significant innovations: First, at the
national level we will take the important work of our NABS committees and
use these to cultivate and reinforce a compelling image for the student
division for the benefit of working partners and potential sponsors; and
second, at the state level we will work with student boards to craft
communication campaigns that will support and enhance the NABS mission and
attract new members to the movement that is the National Federation of the
Blind. Most importantly, we are counting on you to help us help your
division. In other words, you think of the ideas and plan their
implementation, and we will sell them to the public inside and outside of
the organization so that we can go about the business of creating a healthy
generation of marketable leaders.
First to join my communications team was Jose Martinez, president of the
Texas student division. He is majoring in public relations, minoring in
business administration, and as assistant director he will help me deliver a
professional blend of entrepreneurial, marketing and publicity talents for
your diverse requests and needs. We have others ready to serve in this
unique endeavor, and we are all ready to do everything in our power to put
NABS and its state divisions squarely on the map.
Again, thank you for the vote of confidence. We've got a lot of work ahead
of us, and we will do you proud.
Regards,
The Communications Team
