Internship Program Details
. 10-week mentored-research experience in the exciting fields of
rehabilitation engineering and assistive technology
. $340/week stipend and possible travel and housing allowance
. Opportunities for hands-on assistive technology product design
and fabrication experience using sophisticated computercontrolled
machinery
. Work in a friendly, nurturing, and high-tech environment with
faculty and graduate students with diverse backgrounds (e.g.
medical, engineering, therapy, exercise physiology)
. Training and practice in technical writing and scientific presentations
. Learn about graduate school and exciting careers in rehabilitation
engineering and assistive technology
Examples of Summer 2006 Intern Projects
. Biomechanical evaluation of wheelchair propulsion and transfers
. Design and development of embedded instruments for recording wheelchair
activity and evaluating
wheelchair driving skills
. Low-cost electric power wheelchair design and prototyping for India
. Calibration and testing of a manual wheelchair SMARTHUB for analyzing
whole-body shock and
vibration
. Development of a virtual wheelchair driving simulation
. Development of rehabilitation robotic interfaces for enhancing
manipulation
