Subject: NFBK - FW: Special AccessWorld(R) Survey on Section 508

Please take time to complete the following survey if any of its questions
are relevant to your work situation. The office I worked in before my
retirement had a large area of responsibility for our agencies
implementation of section 508. There is a great deal of room for
improvement in these regulations.

Section 508 can have the residual effect of improving access for all of us
in the long run. The government is such a large consumer that many
companies wishing to do business with it may make improvements in the
accessibility of products they provide for all of us.

Subject: Special AccessWorld(R) Survey on Section 508

Dear AccessWorld Reader:

Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act is an important, if not commonly
understood piece of federal legislation. The Section and its regulations are
established to ensure the accessibility of electronic technology and
information purchased by the United States federal government, and to ensure
that information which the public uses, such as web pages, is accessible.
Section 508 mandates that federal agencies provide information to people
with disabilities in a manner that is comparable to that provided to people
without disabilities.

The American Foundation for the Blind is one of the organizations advising
the Access Board, the Federal agency responsible for establishing and
maintaining accessibility standards for Federal purchasing, on improving the
effectiveness of the regulations which implement Section 508. We would like
to have some specific information from you to assist us as we participate in
the work to update the regulations which address technology accessibility.

We ask you to please take some time out of your busy schedule to describe
your on-the-job experiences with regard to technology accessibility.

We will use the information you provide as a starting point, from which to
begin to track the experiences of those individuals who work across the
spectrum of employment situations. We will not publish the results of this
survey. Your name and e-mail address will not be tracked or retained. No
specific survey will be used in any way which would identify the individual
who provided the information.

Place an X before the appropriate choice.
