Hello fellow KABS members,
Several of us met today and discussed plans for our 2006 KABS Student
Seminar. We had a pretty good turnout, but we missed seeing several of you.
Nonetheless, we made some good plans and this year's seminar is going to be
a little different and a lot of fun.

This year we've decided to take a bit of a detour from our usual "education"
related themes and have a theme that is a little more fun. Our seminar this
year will focus on social issues, image and confidence building for blind
and visually impaired students. We'll hear from students who have overcome
their fears and gotten involved on campus and in the community. We'll also
have a panel discussion covering such topics as self-presentation, image,
practical tips for dressing for different environments, nonvisual techniques
for applying make up and shaving, etc. We will have time to socialize and
meet new people, as well as get to know a new NABS rep (we've not heard who
our NABS rep will be just yet.)

This year KABS will hold our signature fundraiser, the "Roll to Win" dice
game. I encourage any of you who are good salespeople to please consider
participating in the fundraiser at the state convention. Additionally, KABS
has decided to purchase two of the NFBK reverse raffle tickets at $10 per
ticket, in hopes of winning either the 2nd prize of $250 or even better the
1st prize of $500.

So, as you can tell we had a lot of discussion and made a lot of plans. We
will be announcing more details as they become available. I sure hope to
see many of you at the NFBK state convention and the KABS seminar this year.
Oh and one more thing. In an effort to save time we are going to try to pre
register as many people as possible prior to the seminar since we won't be
able to start registration at the hotel until 5:30.

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me off list
by email or phone. Once again it has been a pleasure serving as the KABS
president and I thank you all for your help in making KABS one of the best
student divisions.

Sincerely,
Melanie
