Greetings Federationists:
The National Federation of the Blind is currently seeking candidates for the
next cohort of the Kenneth Jernigan Leadership in Service Program. This is
an exciting opportunity to learn and grow in your leadership in the National
Federation of the Blind. As a graduate of the first cohort, I can share with
you the benefits of participating in the program; gaining more insight and
knowledge about the inner workings of our organization and the chance to
meet others who are now friends and peers. It is a path to learning and
growing in leadership in the National Federation of the Blind.
Participating in the KJLSP is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the
National Federation of the Blind, our commitment to the blindness movement
and how you can be more fully engaged in the nation's oldest, largest and
premier transformative civil rights organization of blind people. It is a
great opportunity to meet other leaders and network, building relationships
that can last a lifetime. There is a serious time commitment expected of
each person selected to be in the Kenneth Jernigan Leadership in Service
Program. You are expected to commit to a year-long program, with a
combination of in-person and virtual meetings and an expectation that you
will attend our 2026 Washington Seminar and 2026 National Convention in
Austin, Texas.
You will be required to fill out a candidate application at the Kenneth
Jernigan Leadership-In-Service Program
<https://nfb.org/civicrm/mailing/url?u=39224&qid=11388298> webpage by July
20. This is a firm deadline. In addition, you must secure recommendations
from 2 Affiliate Presidents and complete a written essay/video/audio file.
The complete list of requirements will be on the Kenneth Jernigan Leadership
in Service Program webpage.
Please note: The deadline to submit your candidacy is July 20 and the
recommendation for Affiliate President recommendations is also July 20. Do
not wait until July 20 to submit your documentation. I will interview all
candidates who are requesting to be a participant in this cohort, so the
earlier you complete the requirements the better. Affiliate Presidents can
only recommend two people for this program, so please keep that in mind.
I wish all who apply the best of luck!
Let's go build the national Federation of the Blind!

National Federation of the Blind of Florida
