Greetings Florida:
We have a new legislative alert out of Tallahassee! It is time, once again,
for us to begin a campaign to oppose legislation that will have a
detrimental effect on us as working Floridians. We have been alerted to a
bill in the Florida Senate, SB 676, that aims to circumvent the minimum wage
increase passed by vote five years ago, by allowing employees to "volunteer"
to be paid less than the prevailing minimum wage. For your information, the
minimum wage in Florida is currently $13 per hour, with an increase to $14
on October 1, 2025. The minimum wage will increase to $15 on October 1,
2026, when it will go back to its normal increase rate, as set by Florida
Statute. This bill will also re-classify certain jobs so they fall under the
category of internships and other job types that may not be subject to
minimum wage law. Further, this violates parameters set forth in the Fair
Labor Standards Act, federal law that is supposed to protect workers in the
United States.
We are working on an template for everyone to use as we oppose this
legislation. This bill is moving fast! Please standby for more information
and action directions.
