[NFBCS] strange issue with NVDA and Remote Windows server Administration Tools

Howdy all,

I'm hoping you can identify my problem, and assist me with the proper
questions to ask my employer, as well as to provide general advice.

I'm a blind IT student intern at a local community college, and all of our
domain controllers are on-prem.

All of the workstations in our SOC have Remote server administration Tools
installed for some windows server modules, including Power shell and active
Directory Users and Computers.

Whenever I attempt to use NVDA with ADUC and Powershell, NVDA cannot
interact with the keyboard or read anything off of the screen. As in, I
cannot tab or arrow over elements, and when using object navigation, Nvda
just speaks, "unknown." Note that this only happens when I attempt to
perform administrative tasks that need user elevation, and I only use my
administrative credentials when needed at an UAC dialogue box. However, if I
attempt to view the ADUC OU's, domains and the like as a standard user, I
can read them just fine.

My belief is that the workstation is trying to read off GUI'S which exist on
a server on the wrack, and I believe I need either the NVDA Remote Access
ad-on, or the remote desktop add-on to access the Active Directory Domain
normally. I would guess further that AD is caching some of the credentials
on the local machine, which is why I can arrow and tab over items in ADUC as
a standard user.

I would most certainly appreciate any of your guidance about specific
considerations to ask my employer about their setup when implementing this,
such as correct incoming port numbers etc.

Luckily I get a fair bit of leeway as a student intern mucking about with
the domain controllers, and this pertains strictly to internal campus labs,
so there would be no need to negotiate connections between the LAN and the
community college district's own IT staff.

Best Regards, Amelia
