Yes, all other users open from the shared OneDrive link.
It goes like this:
1. A Word Doc or any Office Suite file is created and saved to OneDrive which for someone with OneDrive setup this is as simple as saving to your Documents folder on Windows.
2. That person then from within Word shares the file, easy way to do this is press Alt+q for the quick actions search and type share. This generates an email or link depending on what you choose.
3. You send that to other people to collaborate with. When they Open it will likely open the Web version. If you want the Desktop experience you can use Alt+q to access quick search and type Open in Desktop to bring the file up in the desktop install of Word if you have it.
This can work across Windows, Mac and even iPad if you have the right Microsoft subscription.

One can create a link to a OneDrive document which works similarly to DropBox links. I would be curious to know if others have found specific issues with this so we could bring them to Microsoft's attention. Charles, would all users open the document using OneDrive links if they did not have OneDrive themselves?

> Answer: Absolutely, in Microsoft Word or Excel collaborating in 1 doc or spreadsheet at the same time is just like working on it solo if you are connected to the internet and open the file with autosave in the Microsoft Office app or in your browser. There may just be editing restrictions on pieces of the file such as a Excel cell someone else is actively changing.
