Dear Members of the National Federation of the Blind of California,
The National Federation of the Blind believes in collective action. Through
our resolutions, we take a stand on critical issues, define our priorities,
and drive the change we want to see in California and beyond.
As we prepare for our 2025 NFBC State Convention, March 14–16, we invite
all members to submit resolutions that will help shape the policies and
advocacy efforts of our movement.
------------------------------
Why Submit a Resolution?
Resolutions are more than just words on a page—they become action. They
determine how our affiliate addresses issues affecting blind people in
California, guide our advocacy at the state and national levels, and
influence public policy, education, employment, transportation, technology
access, and much more.
If you have faced barriers that need to be addressed or see opportunities
for new advocacy efforts, this is your chance to make a difference.
------------------------------
Key Dates and Submission Guidelines
-
Submit Resolutions as Soon as Possible
The Resolutions Committee will begin reviewing drafts as they are
received. The earlier you submit, the more time we have to work with you.
-
Draft Submission Deadline: Friday, March 1, 2025
To ensure your resolution has time for feedback and revisions, please
submit a draft to the committee by this date.
-
Final Submission Deadline: Thursday, March 7, 2025
No resolutions will be accepted after this date unless approved by at
least two committee members.
-
Resolutions will not be amended on the floor; only minor revisions may
be made after the submission deadline.
------------------------------
Key Tips for Writing an Effective Resolution
1.
Use Strong Federation Language
Our resolutions should reflect the philosophy of the National Federation
of the Blind—blindness is not the barrier; societal attitudes and systemic
barriers are.
2.
Start with a Clear Problem Statement
Begin with “Whereas” clauses that define the issue. What is happening,
and why does it matter to blind people?
3.
Propose a Clear, Actionable Solution
The “Resolved” clauses should propose specific actions for NFBC, the
national movement, policymakers, or other stakeholders.
4.
Keep It Focused and Impactful
A strong resolution is clear, to the point, and meaningful—avoid
excessive background information that isn’t necessary to justify the action.
5.
Think Big, but Stay Practical
If we demand change, we must also define how we will push for it. Make
sure your resolution provides a clear call to action.
6.
Ask for Help if Needed!
The Resolutions Committee is here to work with you. If you have an idea
but aren’t sure how to frame it, reach out early. We are happy to help.
