[Nfb-web] [nfbcs] Outlook Express and Mail Servers

Joe,

I would double-check your outgoing parameters. Were you able to send mail before from the same connection? If these other accounts use SSL just like GMail
does, you need to make certain the ports were changed. If these other accounts do not use SSL, make sure that the SSL box is not checked and that the outgoing
port is 25 unless you have been instructed otherwise. If you copied the SSL port, probably 465, as the outgoing port and you are not using SSL, this would cause
the connection to fail. If you use SSL but it is not supported or you don't use SSL and it is required, your connection will fail. You may also be accessing servers
that require authenticated SMTP. If that is the case, there is a check box for that, but you may also have a separate server name. The third thing to examine is
what kind of password needs to be used. If you have sent to these accounts before, copying all of these settings should work. However, when you send mail to a
mail server that is on a different network, there are sometimes different parameters that need to be used. For example, VISI.COM is my internet service provider.
When I am connected from home, I have a simple set of parameters. However, when I want to send mail to VISI when I'm at work or traveling and not connected to
VISI, I have to use at least Authenticated SMTP, and I might also to choose SSL. As I understand it, though, you don't usually use both SSL and Authenticated
SMTP.

That error code of 10060 is a sort of general code in my experience that is issued when you can't connect. Depending upon your e-mail program, there is sometimes
more error information that is passed back to you. That might be helpful as well. Usually a router won't affect this, but if for some reason your router or firewall is
blocking the port, that could. Good luck.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson
