Pressing Alt+up-arrow when you're at the point you wish to select also
works; in fact, this closes the list box and is the converse of hitting
Alt+down-arrow.

Instead of pressing down arrow, press alt-down arrow. Then you can arrow
through the list. Press tab to activate your selection. This is a Windows
hotkey, so will work with any screen reader.
