Subject: [Nfb-web] convention pledge audio on Web
Good afternoon everyone,
One area to be discussed during the Webmasters Committee meeting at
convention is what audio is suitable for placing permanently on our Web
Sites and what is not. I'm dealing with this issue as I'm readying some
audio to be uploaded to one of our affiliate Web Sites. Part of the banquet
is taken up with an auction, and what sounds to me like a PAC Plan pledge
drive. All of the banquet proceedings were initially streamed to the Web
including the auction and the pledge drive. When we're talking about placing
such content as pledge drives and their kin on-line I believe we're dealing
with sensitive information as on-line stockers and wood-be thieves would
have an idea of our members finances, and if they can figure out where
they're from could find these individuals and God only knows what could
happen. If the Internet is to be used to raise funds for our organization it
should be done in a way that allows individuals, organizations, and
corporations to contribute to our work, but does not disclose sensitive
financial information of our members, or threatens their security. I'm
talking about the PAC Plan and other pledge drives that often occur during
state, or even National Convention Banquets, and other events.
Here's my take on what to do in this situation based on the information
we've seen in the complete recordings of our organization's past
conventions. All door prize announcements, and financial information plus
audio anomalies are removed from the recordings. The entire financial
reports given on the last day of general sessions is not included in these
recordings. Based on this and pure gut instinct my inclination is to remove
all such content from the convention audio archives to prevent unwanted
disclosure of the organization's finances at any level, and to protect our
members from criminal activity. I'll appreciate other feedback as I'm
cleaning these up and readying them to be uploaded to the server. Take care,
and have a great weekend.
