[Nfb-web] streaming again

Hello Bryan and listers,

The short answer is, it's coming! For myself I'm looking at several
different mixers/digital workstations and am deciding whether to go the PC
with analog mixer for field recording and live streaming, a dedicated
workstation capable of live streaming to the Web or to digitally record
events without the need for the PC, or a PC for streaming and a digital
workstation to allow me to digitally record events without the need for a
second device such as the computer. This last option would allow me to have
the abilities of both Worlds.

This afternoon I called the Alamo Music Center to follow up on an enquiry I
made last week when I visited them and was shown the Boss BR-600 digital
workstation. In addition to functioning as a digital recorder it also has
on-board musical instruments and a drum machine making it ideal for
musicians. For me the music stuff was simply more bells and whistles I
didn't need.

When I talked to Rudy today he told me about another unit they have from
Roland which is a dedicated digital-audio workstation without the music
composition bells and whistles. I plan to go down there next week to,
"Test-drive" both the Boss BR-900 and the Roland device to be sure I'm able
to use them independently. Both of these workstations allow you to record
music or voice and to save them to an on-board hard drive and transferred to
a compact flash card to be ported to a PC or another device for further
editing and/or publishing. In addition both units also allow you to burn
your work to a CD directly upon completion of the session.

The Boss BR-600 does not have CD burning capability. Might I suggest
doing as I'm doing if you're getting itchy for this information. I'm sure
there are music and professional audio equipment stores in your area you can
visit who will let you examine, and perhaps try out a mixer or workstation
for yourself. Should you do this and find a system that works for you please
share the information with us so we can include it in the NFB-Web Portal.
Best wishes from Mary and I for a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Peter Donahue
