Melissa, I had the same realization when I lost my sight about how the
sighted all of the sudden seemed to reject you, espescially in public and
social situations. It was very hard to except.Especially when I was a people
person and loved to socialize and converse with all types. Not until I
accepted my blindness and started to socialize with the blind community,.
did I start to find myself again. As far as Braille, I am still learning it
myself and I have to tell you, it is difficult for me due to the fact I am
always trying to associate the letter alphabet with the fingertips, as well
as having neuropathy in my fingertips. Oh well, I wish you well, and the
NFB has many members in it that will enjoy your conversation and bubbly
personality, We welcome you! Kirk Harmon

What's up my name is Melissa I have a 4 year old child. I am 27 years old I
lost my sight 2 years ago and I am in the process of learning how to read
all the braille that there is to learn and I do not think I will ever get
that done but I sure am going to try! I love the outdoors I used to train
horses and work with a vet before I lost my sight but now I am nothing. If
anyone knows how I can get started again I am open to suggestions. I have
found it very hard and heart breaking when people turn you away when they
find out you can not see. I am probably the most bubbly, people person you
could ever talk to and I am always willing to talk to anyone any time
anywhere. I always thought we where all equal.
Peace out, Melissa
