If, forwhatever reason, you don't like Louisiana or perhaps live closer,
there is also BLIND, Inc. (the word blind in the name stands for "Blindness
Learning In New Dimensions"). You can find out more about them at
www.blindinc.org.

Oh Melissa, PLEASE, do not think of yourself as nothing!!! I myself used to
believe that of myself till I went to the Louisiana Center For the Blind:
www.lcb-ruston.com

I really can accurately say I found myself there. PLEASE, listen to what
Alan and I and many others of us here have to tell you. YOU, ARE, NOT,
NOTHING!! You are a very important person in the life of your child. You
are a very important person in the lives of those who love you. Your
blindness does not make you nothing. I most strongly urge you to call the
Louisiana Center as soon as you can at:
1-800-234-4166
and talk to Pam Allan. We will all help you as much as we can. Hang in
there Melissa.

Sincerely,
The Constantly BAREFOOTED Ray

Melissa,
You are not nothing. You are still someone, you just have to find
alternatives for how you do things in the world. You can still cook, clean,
operate any device you wish, be it a TV, stereo, computer,
dishwasher...whatever.

There are centers you can go to learn not only the skills of blindness, but
also the confidence to carry on your life without being able to see.

There are others on this list who will have very similar things to say.
We're all here to help. If you have any questions, feel free to write me
privately, if you want. Blindness isn't the end of the world or of your
life, it's just a transition is all.

What's up my name is Melissa I have a 4 year old child. I am 27 years
old I lost my sight 2 years ago and I am in the process of learning how to
read all the braille that there is to learn and I do not think I will ever
get that done but I sure am going to try! I love the outdoors I used to
train horses and work with a vet before I lost my sight but now I am
nothing. If anyone knows how I can get started again I am open to
suggestions. I have found it very hard and heart breaking when people turn
you away when they find out you can not see. I am probably the most bubbly,
people person you could ever talk to and I am always willing to talk to
anyone any time anywhere. I always thought we where all equal.
Peace out, Melissa
