John, the ones that don't agree with either of the parties can always become
an independant and take what they wish from both parties! However, if they
wish to advocate for a ceratain philosophy, the they must decide which one
most fits their philosophical agenda! Kirk

This is exactly my point. The NFB is NOT a political party or a religion. It
is totally inappropriate for it to behave like either of those.
If you don't like the Democrats, you can join the Republicans. If you don't
like the Republicans, you can join the Democrats. But what am I to do if I
don't like what the NFB is doing? Join the ACB? First of all, that's not
fair because the NFB is so much more powerful. Secondly, the Democrats and
the Republicans have an adversarial relationship. Are you suggesting that
the NFB and ACB should try to thwart each other? That's not in the best
interest of blind people.
And I hope I don't have to explain why the comparison to a religious
organization is inappropriate. I certainly hope the NFB doesn't see itself
like a religion. I shouldn't have to adhere to certain beliefs before
joining the NFB. In fact, that is really the crux of the problem. My
bbeliefs shouldn't matter. If they do, that's a very, very bad sign.
Honestly, Dave, I know you didn't mean it that way but you're lucky I'm not
an anti-NFB bigot. You go around telling people that the NFB is like a
political party or a religion, and you're just giving ammunition to people
who criticize the NFB for being cultish.

John:
You are unrealistic as concerns political
organizations. We are going to drive away some
people, and attract others. The democrats and
the republicans do this, the catholics and the
Presbyterians do this etc. etc. etc. That is the way of life.
You can join, and I hope you do, but if your
ideas and goals are to different from ours,
neither you nor we are going to be comfortable.
