Hi -- It can be used to read anything it takes a picture of -- What I have
used it for so far is much more sophisticated than reading a book -- it will
read almost anything -- but the reader's main reading mode is "books,
articles and labels mode", and I have see other people use it for books --
if you want more info, join the reader-users list on nfbnet.org.
I love this thing. It is not only good for large blocks of text, but it
even reads the labels on boxes, cans and bottles. And sighted family
members have been impressed that it handles a variety of text and
backgrounds in different colors, sizes and fonts correctly.
(Example, I have a brochure that it scanned correctly, and it had a portion
with large white letters on brown background, followed by black text on
white and turquoise on white, all in the same scan.
Truely interesting.
Anyway, I'm a happy camper so far and I just bought the thing at convention
so am new to using it.

Subject: [nfb-talk] question about the K-NFB Reader

I have a question about the K-NFB Reader. On another list they are saying it
can't be used to scan books. Can someone clarify whether or not they get
good scans with books? Someone on the Bookshare list said it is too small to
scan books and that it can only be used for scanning menus and other
documents. I didn't think that was accurate.
