We've been arguing about whether or not blind people need a special flag
you can feel. Obviously we don't. And any veteran knows good and well
what the flag looks like because he'd never have been able to serve that
flag unless he could see it. Any dead veteran who was blind prior to his
death probably doesn't need to go around feeling flags (though that would
make for one really bizarre zombie movie..) Unquestionably this is a
waste of time and money. Congress knows this, and they are doing it
anyway. Makes you wonder why, doesn't it?

I had a hard time deciding whether or not to write this message, so I hope
David will forgive me, because the REAL reason for this legislation has
absolutely nothing to do with blindness and is, therefore basically
off-topic for this list.

Do you really think the congress gives a damn about blind veterans. Do
you really? This would be the first indication that they care about any
veterans at all. I don't buy it.

This is just a way for them to criticize the war without going on record
for continuing to criticize it. I mean, see what this war does? Not only
are our soldiers dying, but the ones who don't die are being CRIPPLED!
They are being BLINDED even! And now they can't even see that flag we
made them fight for! But at least the good-hearted congress-critters who
truly understand the human cost of this war have the heart to give them
that much: A flag they can feel.

I don't like being part of a token group of cripples for some dim-witted
parasite to use to garner sympathy for his re-election campaign. I only
wish I had the opportunity to personally tell them what they can do with
their token gesture.
