Hello Everyone,
New routes for guide and assistance dogs in to the UK from the
United States were announced today. They include a few surprises along with
new routes operated by Continental Airlines and the second US Carrier to
begin carrying guide and assistance dogs in the passenger cabin on their
routes in to the UK. U.S. Airways joins Continental as the second United
States Airline to establish an RMOP with DEFRA to transport our dogs in
their passenger cabins.
This latest round of new assistance dog routes includes the
first U.S. carriers to operate routes to London Heathrow and Manchester
International Airports. Until now London Gatwick was the only UK airport to
be served by a U.S. Carrier approved to carry assistance dogs in their
passenger cabins.
Air India and Kuwait Airways also announced routes from Chicago and New
York JFK to London Heathrow. This came as a surprise as neither India nor
Kuwait are currently PETS Countries. Thanks to the new provisions of the Air
Carrier Access Act, (ACAA) these airlines decided to obey the letter and
spirit of the law by their willingness to transport our dogs in their
passenger cabins in to the UK. I'm especially touched by Kuwait Airways
getting on board as Kuwait is an Islamic Country. If this airline can
understand the wisdom of obeying our laws our Islamic taxi drivers could
learn by their example. Here is the list of current UK routes including the
new routes from the cities in question:
