Consider the banquet a fun dress-up party. Wear whatever you have in the closet
hat makes you feel well dressed and come enjoy the biggest party and pep rally
ou are ever likely to go to. You will fit right in no matter what you wear.
Most women come in their Sunday-best dress or skirt or pants suit, and most men
ear nice suits; a few wear tuxes. Some women wear what I would call a ball
own, some a cocktail dress. And some folks just come in their clean blue
eans. I've even seen a few young men wearing shorts. Members know that some
f our folks don't have the money for fancy clothes, so nobody ever comments on
hat others are wearing to the banquet except to say if the clothes look pretty.
retty clothes are fun, sure, but the important part is the being together, the
lways interesting speech by President Maurer on what's happening concerning
lind civil right in the United States and the world, and finding out who wins
hich scholarship and what careers these young blind college students are going
nto.

Hi, Cheryl,
ease take a look at the April 2006 "Braille Monitor" article. It will nswer
hese questions and more. For the bottom-line answer to your uestion of timing,
ere is my idea for it. If you wish to be a part of he entire convention:
rrive at the hotel in time for the 8;30 A.M.
ents on Saturday, June 30; leave after 5 P.M. on Friday, July 6. The onvention
reaks down into these 3 big sections:
aturday has many workshops and seminars, all day and into the evening.
the way, Mrs. Cheadle tells me that her division, the National rganization for
arents of Blind Children (NOPBC) has changed a bit and ow charges $15 for
ttendance at their convention events, which covers he Saturday day-long seminar
lus all the daily special workshops and eetings they run all week. The single
ee of $15 covers all the eetings plus the fat packet of materials.
unday and Monday, we have specialty meetings.
e may choose to attend the annual 3-hour to 4-hour meetings of most of he
ivisions, the meeting of the NFB National Board, the meeting of the esolutions
ommittee, and find some time to enter the Exhibit Hall hich is open from after
reakfast to suppertime on both days.
uesday through Friday, we all meet in the big convention hall to be "in
nvention assembled" to hear the national issues discussed from the odium and
ave a chance to put our two-cents in from the floor mikes.
e Exhibit Hall is open many times these four days, but not when the eneral
essions are going on. There will be multiple meetings of ivisions and groups,
nformation events, and fundraisers going on each orning, each noon, and each
vening, except for Thursday night.
ursday night is the big, dress up pretty, national banquet. The onvention ends
t 5 P.M. Friday.
ee you there!
