Hello all!
I would say other groups manage to get low rates as well for hotels and
convention centers. If other groups couldn't do this, we wouldn't have been
able to do so either. I don't feel low rates are just for us therefore, we
aren't singled out!
The best way to get low rates is to have any number of people, the most
possible show up at a given hotel or convention center. The more we bring
in, the better the convention rate! This is pure and simple economics.
Perhaps if we become too large, we should consider some kind of regional
conventions or seasonal conventions, perhaps an eastern and western
convention. All questions and issues resolved in both could be coordinated
with the national office. One religious body I know of has their conference
on Satellite TV and radio. Perhaps we could find a way to have our
convention utilizing various media options. Perhaps this is far fetched but
maybe it is something to consider when transportation and time issues are
giving us some challenges.
For what it is worth!

This is exactly why I do not attend convention. Atlanta, Dallas,
Detroit, and Louisville. Always the same cities. Marc needs to branch
out. Members need to realize that the rates that NFB gets are not real
world.
The last sentence brings up an interesting philosophical question. We
claim we are equal. We expect equal treatment. Yet we always want
cheap hotel rates for our convention. Is that a correct position for us
to take? Personally I think not. What do others think?
William
P.S.
The only way I will attend another convention is if it is held somewhere
I want to visit.
