National Mentoring Month Celebrations Kick Off the New Year

January is National Mentoring Month (NMM) and this year's celebrations are bigger and better than ever. Spearheaded by the Harvard Mentoring Project, MENTOR
and the Corporation for National and Community Service, NMM focuses national attention on the need for youth mentors. Throughout the country, Mentoring
Partnerships are taking the lead by connecting interested adults with mentoring opportunities in their communities and promoting ways that organizations
across every sector of society - businesses, government agencies, schools, faith organizations and nonprofits - can work together to expand quality mentoring
for young people.

Here are just a few of the many events and milestones marking National Mentoring Month:
List of 1 items
. Proclamations - In the White House, Congressional offices, and city halls across the nation, officials are issuing proclamations saluting mentoring. President
Bush led the way with a presidential proclamation declaring January to be National Mentoring Month, while governors, mayors and other local officials signed
similar proclamations and urged their constituents to think creatively about how they can support mentoring.

17 home game against the Philadelphia 76ers; and the Mentoring Partnership of Minnesota is joining with NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell, the Minnesota Business
Partnership and the Minnesota Timberwolves to expand mentor recruitment efforts across the state. In Massachusetts, Mass Mentoring Partnership is partnering
with Borders to host talent shows at various Borders locations. The talent shows will spotlight mentor/mentee matches and raise public awareness about
mentoring. In New York City, the Mentoring Partnership of New York and The CW11/WPIX-TV will present Mentors' Day at Chelsea Piers on January 13, featuring
a full day of fun for mentoring pairs, with activities ranging from arts and crafts to rock wall climbing.
