I have RockBox on my iPod. It turns your iPod into a much USB drive
player, and once installed you don't even need Anapod Explorer. The
methods used to make RockBox work with speech are a bit of a hack at
present, and the installation of the whole thing is complex for now,
however if you can figure it all out, it is the most effective way to
force an iPod to become a useful device for us.

If ever they add support for the iPod's own database, it'll become the
perfect device of us. Adding support for the other fancy features like
photos and videos and writing a few little tools to configure things for
you will make RockBox THE unofficial iPod firmware.
