Dear All,
SSDI should not be effected as the money was not earned income, but Medicaid
may be.
You could place the money in several CD's, that are staggered to come due at
different times of the year, so you can cash them in slowly, over time, as
needed or just treat them as some kind of IRA account that will earn
interest and wait until you are 65 years old to use them when SSDI ends.
Everyone who reaches the age of 65 years goes on to SSA as all disability
ends at age 65.
Then you would be old enough to cash them in without paying a penalty as you
will be in a better tax bracket.
If you invest the money in some kind of eneuities, they should be tax free
and you can let the interest grow over the years.
Investing in some form of insurance policies will be tax free and could
provide you with some long term income in your old age.
Talk to a tax or financial advisor about the best way to handle it.
