[nfb-talk] A Political Battle:

Okay, having just finished a class in Macroeconomics, may I put forward the
idea that abolishing the Fed is...to be nice...insane?

They set the country's monetary policy, and help us deal with recessions and
inflation, among other things. I can understand a dislike of the IRS (but
even I have come to respect them), but abolishing the fed? How
anti-government do you have to be to think that's a good idea? LOL!

Sorry, I know it's OT, but I just had to respond because of having recently
learned the exact purpose of the Fed and how important it is.

Well I have a few things to say a bout these messages. First of all as far
as the NFB only helping the best and the brightest, I am neither and the NFB
has helped me tremendously. Now they have never fought a battle for me or
"gotten me a job" but they have helped me to be a better blind person and
they have introduced me to a world I would have never experienced had I not
joined. I found my own job. NFB philosophy I am sure played a part but it is
not the NFB's place to "find a job" for someone. We have to want the job and
we have to put forth the effort to find it ourselves. I would have to go
even a little further and say that keeping one's record clean goes a long
way toward employability. It is not the NFB's fault that this gentleman has
a misdemeanor on his record perhaps he should consider his own
responsibility for his own situation.
As far as the abolishment of the federal reserve and the IRS is concerned, I
work for the IRS and I see every day how at times we really don't know how
to treat people however, that is truly not a blindness issue. I think anyone
who would address the convention and ask for this "abolishment" would be
wasting the convention's time and their own. We are here to address issues
pertaining to changing what it means to be blind not administration of the
federal Government. I too am curious Ken, who's side are you on? You are not
required to like the NFB, but what good does it do to bash and trash any
organization?
