[nfb-talk] Equestrian Unit for March

Good afternoon everyone,

While discussing list matters with a horse person last night I began
thinking of an idea for the NFB's March for Independence in Atlanta this
summer. Plans are in the works to form a marching band made up of blind
musicians. Members of our Sports and Recreation Division plan to skate and
rollerblade the parade route. An effort is under way to form a team of guide
dog users to march together. Most other parades usually include one or more
equestrian units. Given the number of blind folks with an interest in
horsemanship and who are involved with horses in one way or other I wonder
if any thought was given to forming an equestrian unit made up of blind
horse enthusiasts?

I know there are logistical and practical issues with such a venture,
but thought I would throw it out for thought. After all if other groups who
sponsor parades can include equestrian units having one in our March for
Independence would be one more way we as blind people can show that the
blind are involved in many careers and callings including equestrianship. If
we couldn't do it this year perhaps in the future if the March for
Independence is held during subsequent National Conventions. Just thought I
would throw out that thought for the horse folks on these lists to consider.
