SSA Board Report on Improving the Social Security Hearing Process

              Social Security Advisory Board Report
on Improving the Social Security Hearing Process

              Social Security Advisory Board issues:
Improving the Social Security Administrations Hearing Process
                          September 2006

Over the past two years, the Social Security Advisory Board has
been examining the SSA hearing process, focusing attention on
issues of consistency, productivity, long processing times and
large backlogs, hearing office management, and the relationship
between the agency and its corps of administrative law judges. On
the basis of this study, the Board has developed recommendations
addressing those issues so as to make the process more fair,
consistent, and efficient.

The Board's report is available now in a preliminary electronic
version http://www.ssab.gov/documents/HearingProcess.pdf.
Printed copies will be available at a later date.

This and other Board reports can be requested or downloaded from
