I got the following query from a sighted friend who is a retired SF and SF
news editor. Does anyone know about this man?
Note: I am temporarily on "no mail" on nfb-talk, until I return with my new
dog from Seeing Eye in about two months. If anyone there responds, please
carbon me directly. Thanks,

Subject: John Bush
John Bush, who used to be the SF person at the publisher Victor
Gollancz in the UK, helped organize the ANWAB -- the Anglo Nigerian
Welfare Association for the Blind. Here's a quote from a website (see
http://tinyurl.com/r8m7v) about the organization's leader, Danlami
Basharu:
ANWAB gets help from friends in the U.K. John Bush, ANWAB's chairman,
who has helped them so much is now 88 years old.
'If I were in the National Honours Committee in Nigeria, I would have
nominated him for national honours!' declared Danlami. 'At the age of
88, when he should be resting with his wife, he has sacrificed 10
years of his life now to seeing that this project really succeeds'.
Bush, an Englishman has been to Nigeria five or six times, right from
when the centre started operations in 1996. He was last in the
country in 2001, when he was 85.
'He was always coming to see how things were going. He's been to
Abuja - to the Ministry people, he's been to Kano, Jos, Oyo just to
see the situation of the blind children'.
Mr. Bush was able to get the Association a grant of about 52,000
Pounds from the UK National Lottery Fund to provide books for blind
secondary school students in Nigeria. This came up to about N10m at
that time. It enabled them get an extra Braille Embosser and more
staff. ...
The question is, what has become of John Bush?
Do you know?
Best,
Andy Porter
