I would say that Mr. Palter is partially correct. Television does often tend
toward garbage, as does content of the big screen in your local theater.
However, I must make two points:

1. There was a series on last year that most of us will remember called,
Blind Justice, that was a step in the right direction. It wasn't perfect
because it rested on some of those old blindness clichés (the over-developed
sense of smell, hearing, etc), but it tried to delve into what a blind
person could and could not do and how he was accepted by his coworkers.

2. While most of TV is garbage, particularly so-called, "reality
television," I believe we are in a golden age where dramatic TV is
concerned. Shows like 24, Lost, The Sopranos, The Unit, Deadwood, House,
Rescue Me, Without a Trace, Battlestar Galactica, The Closer, Numb3rs, The
Wire, Grey's Anatomy, Veronica Mars, Prison Break, The Shield, and many,
many more have offered the best entertainment in years.

I realize that's not blindness-related, but I had to throw it in there.
