[Nfb-seniors] Nfb-seniors Digest, Vol 4, Issue 4

I do strongly feel that we need free high speed Internet access to download
the talking books and other educational materials. This seems to fall on
deaf ears. The "free" web cams from Sorenson are useless
without high speed acces yet the FCC is subsidizing VRS with about $7 per
minute. NFB sponsors high priced equipment, but no available $10. hearing
aids or low cost vision equipment. We need to wake up and really help the
blind, deaf and handicapped. I am ready to quit the NFB. I got nasty letters
from the senior net from "seeing" blind, that could drive their car for 10
years. We have "seeing blind in our leadership with guide dogs and wheel
chairs" for prestige but function well without them. We must ask our members
for honest blind certifications and not sponsor seeing loud mouths!!! We
must stop the blindfolding in prolonged useless education. The NFB is
against free bus passes, talking traffic lights etc. to see that we are so
independent that we are better than the seeing. Such nonsense. All Hawaii
has less than 30 blind members and we brag to be the voice of the blind??? I
could not even get an email to tell me what was presented at our Hawaii
State conference of maybe 5 truly blind. Our State President is a hostile???
So what is the NFB??? There is no honest change in our NFB everlasting
unchanging leadership!!! We vote to change the color of the moon but not
even for legal help from the NFB.

Subject: From Jesse Hartle-Legislative Alert-Dear Colleague Letter
Extended
Fellow Federationists:
We are continuing to make a difference on Capitol Hill.  Our "Dear
Colleague" letter to support the Talking Books program now has 68
members of the U.S. House of Representatives signed on in support.
Congressman Towns, the sponsor of this letter, has now agreed to hold
the letter open through the close of business on next Monday, March 17.
I am asking you to make one phone call Monday morning to your member of
the House of Representatives, and urge him or her to sign on to
Congressman Towns' "Dear Colleague" letter to support the Talking Books
program.  I have listed the members that have already signed this letter
below.  If your member of Congress is on this list, I would like you to
call them and thank them for supporting the Talking Books program.  You
can be connected with your member of Congress by calling the Capitol
switchboard at (202) 225-3121.
