Hi there,

My name is Jillian and I am a recent UConn grad with a major in Web Design and a minor in Digital Marketing. My major consisted of courses in both computer science and graphic design, and I am currently looking for full-time jobs in User Experience Design or Front-end Engineering.

One of the companies I applied to, Revature, offered me to take their coding interview. The test is 50 multiple-choice questions in 50 minutes with a video proctor. I did not tell the recruiter that I was legally blind, so am I allowed to ask for accommodations before taking the test? I need extended time and would need to view sample questions in the online portal to check for readability. I just do not know how to ask for accommodations at work, and the test is due this Friday, 10/18.

If any of you work in software engineering, can you let me know what portals companies use for coding interviews and how accessible they are? I also do not know when is the right time to disclose my disability as I am applying for jobs.

Thanks for your help,
Jillian Milton, NFB Scholarship Winner 2020
