Hello,
I thought I would give an update on BrlTex, the LaTex to Braille translator.
I have now moved BrlTex to beta stage. It is now producing fairly good braille output for some lecture notes of mine (maybe not perfect, but close and understandable). I am now concentrating to solve some of these finer details. So if there any of you who do use BAUK, I want your bug reports, and I will try and get them solved. I really want to try and get it to a final release.
I realise that many of you don't use BAUK, and I feel the next step in developing BrlTex is to add better support for other output systems. Whilst trying to make it more modular (modular for other output systems, rather than seperating code into seperate python modules, although this probably will happen as a result), there will be the opportunity to add support for different input modules, so other input formats will be supported. I plan to have it as a two step process, where input is translated to an intemediate format, and then braille output is produced from that, although I plan to have a program to seperate users from this two step process or guide them through. For a more detailed discussion on this, visit the BrlTex forum at the BrlTex website http://brltex.sf.net. As I feel this development will be more demanding, and so require more careful planning, so I would welcome comments on this. I would prefer discussion through the forum as others can respond to your comments, but I welcome them in any form.
