John,

Thanks! I too look forward to this list being a resource for networking and
sharing ideas as blind students and professionals in science and
engineering!

I am a civil engineer licensed in the state of California. Since graduating
five years ago from the University of California at Davis I have worked for
our California Department of Water Resources in the branch that does the
planning work on new and/or expanded reservoirs throughout the state. I
read and prepare various planning reports and environmental documents,
mostly in Microsoft Word and PDF. I also use Excel extensively in my job to
manage data and database-type material.

I'd contribute a bit more and be glad to reply to any questions from those
on the list, but for the next week and a half I'll be working as a
facilitator--essentially a camp counselor and instructor--at the NFB's
Rocket On camp in partnership with NASA. You may see more on this list
about it. I am fortunate to have the support of my employer through its
mentoring leave program. I look forward to sharing some about Rocket On
2006 when I return!

In the meantime, please share, and I look forward to reading many of ya'll's
posts when I return!

Nathanael Wales, P.E., Secretary
Science and Engineering Division
